Good oral hygiene helps to prevent dental problem.\u00a0 Due to intellectual impairment, people with intellectual disability may encounter difficulties in learning tooth brushing and maintaining oral health and so that they are particularly vulnerable to oral diseases.\u00a0 As they may be unable to express their discomfort effectively, they may vent through negative behavior or emotions.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

In response to the oral care needs of people with intellectual disability, the Joint Council organized a \u201cWorkshop on Oral Care for People with Intellectual Disability\u201d which aimed to equip the home staff with related knowledge and skills.\u00a0 An experienced dental surgeon, Dr Lee Tak Ming, was invited as our guest trainer.<\/p>\n

The training included the following elements:<\/h3>\n
    \n
  1. Basic caring principles<\/li>\n
  2. Practice of tooth brushing<\/li>\n
  3. How to assist those people with special needs and under long-term care to grasp basic skills in tooth brushing<\/li>\n
  4. Written and technical test<\/li>\n
  5. Discussion<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n
